Many Edmontonians are living paycheque to paycheque in this sluggish economy. We need to have some resiliency in our home budgets to allow for emergencies like vital home repairs that crop up. I promise to vote against rate hikes until we get some breathing room in our economy. When people are losing their jobs, or their hours are being cut, the city needs to rein in spending instead of pushing ahead with expensive projects and initiatives. Freezing taxes will force the council to accept the need for economic restraint, and will reduce the financial burden from ordinary citizens.
